Lambda Pi Eta represents Aristotle’s three ingredients of persuasion:
- Logos: logic
- Pathos: relating to emotion
- Ethos: character credibility and ethics
Lambda Pi Eta’s mission:
- Recognize and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies
- Stimulate interest in the field of communication
- Promote professional development among communication majors
- Provide an opportunity to exchange ideas in the field of communication
- Explore options for graduate education in communication studies
McDaniel College’s chapter has been in existence at McDaniel since 1996.
Membership
We have about eight active members and are going to induct about 10 more at our induction luncheon on April 5th.
Lambda Pi Eta is for rising juniors and seniors who:
- have completed 60 credit hours
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
- are in the upper 35% of their academic class
- have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies
We encourage anyone with an interest in communication to strive to meet the requirements of Lambda Pi Eta. We are always looking to expand in hopes that Lambda Pi Eta will become a better known honor society on campus.
Meetings
We usually meet in the Communication office on the third floor of Lewis. We try to meet about once a month. However, we will meet weekly when we want to create or host an event. We try to host at least one social event a semester so the students know we exist.
Group Activities/Events
We sponsor the Public Speaking contest every year and try to host one or two social events during the school year.
We hosted a roommate challenge in the pub that we called “The Newly-Matched Game”. Roommates were asked questions about each other like:
- What shampoo does your roommate use?
- What is your roommate’s favorite TV show?
- What is your roommate's middle name?
It was a fun event and it served as a way for the student body to connect with the honor society members and hopefully gain an interest in communication.
