Title X: Protect Males from Sexual Discrimination

Introduction

For this assignment, we were to write an essay on a topic involving sports issues. I chose Title IX because, to me, it seems to be bias toward males only because of the gender equity problems a few decades ago. Men and women are more equal now than they were when Title IX was issued, therefore I think the law should be looked at again to make sure that males are not being discriminated against.

Reflection

For this essay I had a great time writing and finding research for my proof. At first I was unsure of where to look for research and documents containing information about Title IX and, in particular, information from the NCAA. I went to the NCAA site and did not find the information I needed until about two hours after I had started surfing the site. The continuous surfing frustrated me to the point of utter madness, until finally, by chance, I stumbled upon the online version of the Participation Rates (see link in Works Cited page). Taking the opportunity, I scanned the online book and found all the perfect information I needed.

James Smith (see in Works Cited) also helped with specific information for McDaniel College and the sports program for the present year. I tried to use this present year from the NCAA, but was unable to because the information was only up to 2002. Mr. Smith was able to give me the information for this year, so that helped even out with the information from all colleges.

The Writing Center helped again and I was able to make my essay the best it could be. Jen also helped with the revision process and gave me ideas on how to get the information. She supplied the phone number to get ahold of someone who gave me Mr. Smith's number.

The only major problems I encountered were making my thesis work for all the information presented in my paper, and utilizing as much information as possible to make each paragraph contain only one idea, rather than many.
